The Project

This project is a single album that will consist of traditional Kurdish music and Dengbej, a specific Kurdish music genre, that Evin has been working on for a long time. The grant received will help push the project towards its finish line.

The Artist / Team

Evin Salgut Şahin is a Kurdish singer and artist. She was born in 1979 in the village Zengok (Yürecik) in Muş Province, a Kurdish region in Turkey. Evin began her Folk Music studies in the Istanbul University State Conservatory in 2002 and graduated in 2007. Since then, she has been involved in many projects aiming to celebrate traditional Kurdish music. Evin has also been featured in many Kurdish TV and film projects over the last decade.

The Goal

Over the last few years, Evin witnessed the destruction of traditional Kurdish music and Dengbej. She believes it is possible to revive this culture by staying true to its essence while endearing people with new styles and interpretations. This is what she aims to do with this new album, and she’s looking forward to sharing traditional Kurdish music and Dengbej to her people and the people of the world.
